“Dingsheng Nuolan Cup”, the 10th National Service Skills (Tourist Services) Contest of Tourism Colleges, was wrapped up in Hangzhou on May 13.Ye Zelin, the student from 2+2 international class of Hospitality Department of School of Tourism, has won the first prize.

The contest was co-organized by China Tourism Education Association and Service Skills Contest of National Tourism Colleges Organizing Committee. There were 1,168 contestants from 371 universities, colleges and vocational schools across China. Our team won one first prize, three third prizes and one excellent team award in this contest.

The contest included three parts: comprehensive theory test, guides’ speech (scenic spot and special topic), and talent show; it was divided into two groups: the Chinese group and English group. Ye Zelin chose the most challenging English group, made a speech on Kaiping Barbicans and sang an English song. When he won the prize, Ye Zelin, the handsome freshman said “The toughest challenge for me was the talent show. The prize is totally out of my expectation. It is a big surprise for me. You know, I have just entered the college less than one year.”

“The big surprise” is closely related with his teachers’ great efforts. The School of Tourism and the School of International Education and Exchanges have paid great attention on 2+2 international classes. The best international teachers and professional teachers have participated into the IELST courses and bilingual courses. Some senior professors are in charge of the classes and their courses . Zhuhai College of Jilin University (JLUZH) has established IELTS Scholarship to encourage the students to learn English. Ye Zelin has made a great progress in English and professional field although he learning in JLUZH less than one year. This big prize is the best proof.

The international classes have adopted the form of 2+2 Chinese and international colleges joint training, that is, for the first and second years, students have their classes in JLUZH and the third and the fourth year, students study in cooperative colleges abroad. Students’ credits will be recognized by each other. With the articulation agreements signed with foreign partner schools as the framework, JLUZH runs 2+2 dual degree programs (International Class) with select universities in the U.S.A, U.K., Australia, Canada and New Zealand, including Macquarie University, The University of Auckland, Angelo State University, Coventry University and Cape Breton University, etc.. This offers the program students opportunities to enroll in the foreign universities after two years study at JLUZH and to gain degrees from both home and abroad.
